DON’T SKIMP ON HOLIDAY INSURANCE

Separate findings from Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance show those planning to book a holiday in 2012 say they will spend on average £765 on the cost of their holiday alone.

With money tight for many households, it’s important to make savings wherever you can.

Further findings from Sainsbury’s show holidaymakers are actively seeking ways to cut costs, with more than three quarters intending to spend less than in previous years. Of the 45 per cent planning a foreign holiday, 13 per cent plan to stay with family and friends abroad, 21 per cent say they will book a self-catering break and 10 per cent want an all-inclusive deal.

However, there are areas where you can’t afford to cut corners for a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Worrying findings from price comparison website Gocompare.com show about 7 per cent of holidaymakers routinely go abroad without any kind of travel insurance. But this is false economy should anything go wrong.

“People are putting themselves at risk of financial loss and potentially huge bills for medical treatments and services,” says Jeremy Cryer from Gocompare.
